Moerane Musical Tribute

Michael Moerane, a brother to former President Thabo Mbeki’s mother, was the first black music graduate to be produced in South Africa in the 1940’s. Emerging at a time marked by racial segregation, the then apartheid authorities would not acknowledge Moerane’s talent and charisma as a conductor in music, inter alia orchestra, as this genre mainly comprised whites only. The Moerane Musical Tribute takes place at Artscape Theatre from March 19-20 at 8pm as well as March 21 at 3pm.
